Course organized in collaboration with APAC.
Pronunciation is an extremely important language skill which is often regarded as difficult and therefore overlooked. Truth be told, poor pronunciation can cause a breakdown in communication. That is why, an early introduction of selected phonetic symbols through characters that I have created at early stages such as years 5 or 6 can bring an end to future embarrassing misunderstandings.
This course will be devoted to English vowel and consonant sounds, putting emphasis on the ones Catalan/Spanish speakers tend to mispronounce. It will provide activities to improve pronunciation in a fun way through tongue twisters, nursery rhymes, homophone dominoes, silent letters, etc. Other relevant aspects such as syllable and word stress, rhythm, connected speech and different English accents will be covered.
The goal of the course is doubtless to help primary school teachers become more confident in their pronunciation and therefore start using systematically activities that focus

Objectius |
1.To make teachers aware of the most difficult English sounds for a Catalan/Spanish speaker.
2.To familiarize teachers with the English phonetic transcription of certain sounds.
3.To provide fun ways to introduce certain sounds to students as well as enjoyable games, songs, videos and activities to foster the oral communication in class.
4.To raise awareness of different English accents in multicultural societies inside the global world we live in.
5.To work in groups using different collaborative learning structures and roles inside the 4-people team.
6.To introduce the interesting literary genre through easy nursery rhymes or rhyming poems to improve our students' literary competence.

Avaluació |
In order to achieve the course objectives participants will have to carry out activities related to English sounds in class as well as at home. They will have to create some fun activities or do some research online to find interesting websites that work on pronunciation. All of them will be relevant material to encourage their students’ learning of important English sounds.
Option - Face to face from 9 to 13h + 1h online per day
Description on-line tasks (5h)
As online tasks, course participants will be asked to read some articles dealing with pronunciation that later on are going to be analysed in class. Also watch some videos and look for several interesting activities which are going to be shared through Padlet and other online websites.
